A total of 10 candidates have applied for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE).
The applicants include Purna Prasad Acharya (former CEO of CDS and Clearing Limited), Badri Prasad Pyakurel, Narad Kumar Luitel, Yuvraj Dahal, Prabin Adhikari, Chudamani Chapagai, Bimal Kumar Tiwari, Krishna Bahadur Karki (former CEO of NEPSE), Hemant Basyal, and Mukunda Raj Joshi.
The selection committee initially opened the application process but later decided to extend the deadline by seven days. The revised deadline allowed applications until March 8, 2025 (25th Falgun, 2081), giving potential candidates additional time to apply. Previously, applications were accepted from February 24 to February 28, 2025 (12th to 18th Falgun, 2081).
To qualify for the CEO position, candidates must hold a postgraduate degree in fields such as Economics, Finance, Management, Information Technology, Business, or Law from a recognized institution. Alternatively, those with a Chartered Accountancy qualification are also eligible. Additionally, candidates must have at least 15 years of professional experience, with a minimum of seven years in a senior managerial role in the capital market or financial sector.
The Ministry of Finance set up a selection committee to oversee the process, led by Joint Secretary Pokharel, with Joint Secretary Amrit Lamsal and expert member Khomraj Kharel also part of the committee. The CEO role at NEPSE has been vacant since February 8, 2025 (25th Magh, 2081), after the previous CEO, Krishna Bahadur Karki, completed his tenure.
With such a diverse pool of candidates, the selection process is expected to be competitive as NEPSE seeks to appoint a qualified leader to help shape the future of Nepal’s capital market.
