Rabi Lamichhane, chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has filed an appeal at the Patan High Court against the Kathmandu District Court’s decision regarding his involvement in the Swarnalakshmi Multipurpose Cooperative fraud case.
The Kathmandu District Court had ordered his release on a bail of Rs. 60 lakh on Magh 3. However, Lamichhane has appealed to overturn this decision and requested to undergo trial on a general date instead.
According to police investigations, the Swarnalakshmi Cooperative misused deposits from 5,669 savers, amounting to over Rs. 2.65 billion. Reports indicate that transactions worth over Rs. 640 million were conducted between the cooperative and Gorkha Media Network.
Previously, in the Sahara Cooperative fraud case in Chitwan, the court had set a bail of Rs. 54 lakh, but Lamichhane has yet to file an appeal against this ruling. However, he has already appealed in cases related to cooperatives in Kaski and Rupandehi.
