The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) witnessed a notable decline today, falling by 33.33 points or 1.23% to close at 2,670.06. This marks a reversal from the previous session’s marginal gain of 3.35 points, bringing the index below the psychological threshold of 2700. The market opened at 2,702.09 and moved within a narrow range, hitting an intraday high of 2,710.13 before dipping to a low of 2,667.56.
Turnover remained strong, with a total trading volume of Rs. 5.65 Arba. Over one crore shares (10,014,866) were traded across 322 listed companies in 55,712 transactions, indicating healthy participation despite the overall market weakness.
Himalayan Reinsurance Limited (HRL) led the turnover chart, generating trades worth Rs. 50.36 Crores. The stock closed at Rs. 1,040.10 per share, reflecting continued investor interest in the insurance segment. On the other hand, Barahi Hydropower Public Limited (BHPL) emerged as the biggest gainer of the day, surging by 7.46%, while Upper Hewakhola Hydropower Company Limited (UHEWA) recorded the steepest loss, tumbling 9.09%.
From a sectoral perspective, the Trading Index posted the most significant decline of 3.11%, while the Mutual Fund Index was the most resilient, falling by only 0.15%. Overall, the market sentiment leaned bearish, possibly due to profit-booking and cautious investor behavior after recent rallies.
