Nilam Dhungana, the Deputy Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, has been given the responsibility of Acting Governor. Following the completion of the five-year term of Governor Mahaprasad Adhikari, the Ministry of Finance appointed Dhungana to take on the role starting from Monday.
In addition, a three-member committee has been formed under the leadership of Finance Minister Vishnu Prasad Poudel to recommend a new governor for Nepal Rastra Bank. However, the committee has yet to initiate the process of selecting a new governor.
The Prime Minister’s Office has informed that a cabinet meeting will be held at 3 PM today, although the recommendation committee has not yet convened for the governor appointment process.
As per the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, the recommendation committee should be formed to propose eligible candidates for the position of governor to the Council of Ministers, but this process has not yet moved forward, leaving the position vacant.
In the meantime, Nilam Dhungana will take charge as the Acting Governor and will lead the bank’s regular operations and monetary policy.
