SEBON Releases Reform Report: Suggests Changing NEPSE and Allowing New Stock Exchanges

The Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) has published an important report that talks about big changes in Nepal’s stock market. The report was led by Mr. Chintamani Shiwakoti, who used to be the Deputy Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank.

The report was created as part of a government plan and was approved by the Cabinet on the 5th of Poush, 2081. Even though the government had already decided to follow the report and gave SEBON the responsibility through the Ministry of Finance, the report had not been made public until now. SEBON finally released it on Tuesday.

The report suggests that the current Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) should be improved through structural changes. It also recommends allowing new companies to run their own stock exchanges by giving them official licenses. The report includes legal and policy advice for the government so that it can make it easier for more stock exchange operators to join Nepal’s capital market in the future.
