CPN (Maoist Centre) Deputy General Secretary and former Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has said that most of Nepal’s communist prime ministers failed to stay away from middlemen and commission-driven politics.
Speaking at an event commemorating Pushpalal Memorial Day, Sharma said that though Nepal has seen nine communist-led governments, none (except Man Mohan Adhikari) stayed true to communist principles.
“If the prime minister neither engages in corruption nor allows it, half of the corruption would end right there. Sadly, we haven’t seen such resolve in our leadership,” he remarked, adding, “This isn’t an allegation, but a reality.”
Sharma also criticized the current laws and structures for serving crony capitalists, and accused communist leaders of abandoning the agenda of state restructuring for the sake of power. He further acknowledged the failure of Nepal’s communist movement to fulfill its constitutional duty of building socialism.
