Load shedding to continue for 6 hours in these areas of Chitwan from today

Nepal Electricity Authority’s (NEA) Chanauli Distribution Center has announced a scheduled six-hour power outage for today, Saun 11 (Sunday), citing excessive electricity demand. The surge in demand has been attributed to extreme summer heat and the lack of rainfall during peak paddy plantation season, which has increased the use of electric irrigation pumps.

According to NEA, the 33 kV Dog Conductor line connected to the 132/33 kV Bharatpur Substation has a maximum capacity of 300 amperes. However, the load has recently spiked to 450 amperes, creating a situation where the system can no longer handle the excess demand, forcing the authority to impose scheduled power cuts to maintain stability.

The areas affected by this load shedding include Narayani–Madi, Meghauli–Vijayanagar–Shukranagar, and Jagatpur–Rampur feeders. The scheduled outage times are as follows: Narayani–Madi will face power cuts from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM and again from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Meghauli–Vijayanagar–Shukranagar will have outages from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Jagatpur–Rampur will be affected from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM and 9:00 PM to 12:00 AM.

To address the issue in the long term, NEA has already initiated the construction of an alternative 33 kV transmission line from the Baseni Substation, a project that began in the previous fiscal year.
