Bhojpur Sees 12 Party Candidates, No Women in House Election Race

Political parties have registered their candidacies for the House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21 in Bhojpur district, but the nominations reflect a complete absence of female candidates. According to the District Election Office, a total of 12 candidates from 12 different political parties have filed nominations, and none of them are women.

Chief of the District Election Office, Dikendra Prasad Subedi, stated that although the Constitution mandates 33 percent women’s participation, even the major political parties have failed to include women candidates in direct elections. He noted that this highlights continued neglect of women’s representation in parliamentary contests.

For the upcoming election, both established and newer political parties have registered candidates at the Office of the Chief Election Officer in Bhojpur. The nominated candidates include Rajaram Basi from the Nepal Majdoor Kisan Party, Dhruv Rai from the Shram Sanskriti Party, Sherdhan Rai from the CPN-UML, Jitendra Rai from the Rastriya Paribartan Party, Janak Nepal from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Ramesh Prasad Ojha from the Rastriya Swatantra Party, and Chandraprasad Rai from the Mongol National Organization Party, according to election officials.

Similarly, Azambar Rai from the Nepal Communist Party, Balkrishna Thapa from the Nepali Congress, Dewanraj Rai from the CPN (Maoist), Gopalkumar Rai from the Janata Samajwadi Party, and Yubaraj Thapa from the Aam Janata Party have also registered their nominations for the election.

The District Election Office reported that Bhojpur has a total of 125,766 registered voters. For the election, 87 polling stations and a total of 161 polling centers, including temporary centers, have been designated across the district.
