Young Entrepreneur Satakshi Mishra Shares Her Journey of Overcoming Startup Failures and Starting Business with Low Investment

Young entrepreneur Satakshi Mishra shared her startup journey, struggles, and how young people can start businesses with small capital in Nepal.

Satakshi Mishra, a young entrepreneur who established herself through businesses like Skill Sewa and White Room, has a strong message for young people who want to start a business. She says that if you think about it today, you must start it by tomorrow.

Speaking in the Bajar Ko Chirfar Premium Podcast, the 27 year old Mishra shared that she started her entrepreneurial journey right after completing her engineering studies. After moving to Kathmandu from Chitwan, she worked on various business ideas and had to face many failures in the starting phase.

The Early Struggles and Failures

According to her, they first started a service to connect plumbers and electricians to customers. After that, they tried renting out tools and equipments used in construction. However, both of these businesses did not succeed.

She said that they faced continuous losses for six months. While her friends started earning money, she was still in loss. This made her study new construction practices in other countries like India. During this time, they started building inspection service. Customers really liked this service because they used special tools to find water leakage and structural problems in homes, which helped the business to grow fast.

Based on this success, Skill Sewa expanded its services to home repair, renovation, and construction. Now, the company provides complete services from home design and construction to handing over keys to the owners.

Success of White Room in Short Time

Mishra also shared that her new business called White Room got a very good response within just eight months, which was more than her expectation. This business is based on the Airbnb concept.

The business targets customers who come to Kathmandu with their families, people who need a place to stay for medical treatment, or those looking for short term accommodation. They provide fully furnished apartments for these guests.

Mishra said that she worked for many years in Skill Sewa, but now many people recognize her from White Room.

Advice for New Startups

Mishra believes that the biggest challenge in entrepreneurship is mental preparation. To succeed in a startup, one must leave their comfort zone, shyness, and hesitation.

She explained that in a startup, you are the CEO and you are also the staff. You have to do everything yourself, from making tea to serving the customers.

She also claimed that a very big capital is not required to start a business. If someone has a good idea, they can easily get help from family, friends, or other investors.

She added that a family who can manage 20 to 30 lakh to send their children abroad can surely give 50 thousand to start a business. One just needs to present their business idea in a good way.

According to Mishra, there are plenty of opportunities in Nepal if young people study new business concepts running abroad and modify them according to the local market.
