eSewa Ltd. has appointed Niraj Sharma as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), marking a leadership transition at Nepal’s leading digital payment service provider.
The eSewa Board of Directors decided on Bhadra 30 to appoint Sharma as CEO for a four-year term, effective Ashoj 12.
Sharma brings more than 25 years of leadership experience in banking and financial services, with expertise in transaction banking, card systems, digital transformation and retail banking. He has also worked across digital innovation, strategic growth and customer-focused financial services.
With Sharma taking charge, eSewa is set to enter its next phase under a leader with extensive banking and digital-finance experience.
The appointment follows the completion of Jagdish Khadka’s four-year tenure as CEO. Khadka was appointed CEO of eSewa on Ashoj 12,2079.
During Khadka’s tenure, eSewa expanded its user and merchant base, with registered users crossing 14 million and merchants surpassing 600,000, according to the company.
eSewa also expanded its digital financial services during the period, introducing products and features including digital lending, Finance 360, eSewa Circle, Business Link, Business App and Intent Pay, alongside insurance and lifestyle services.
The company also introduced a Nepali-language app and a TalkBack feature to make its digital services more accessible.
With Khadka’s tenure now complete, Sharma takes the helm of eSewa for the next four years.
