The Ministry of Finance has completed discussions with 16 ministries regarding the budget for the fiscal year 2082/83. During a meeting with the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation on Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel emphasized that the upcoming budget should focus more on policy shifts rather than just figures. He highlighted the importance of maintaining coordination and partnership among all three levels of government while respecting the essence of federalism.
Minister Paudel urged ministries to review past programs, prioritize federal-level projects, reduce or adjust unnecessary plans, and include smart initiatives. He also suggested that projects costing less than NPR 30 million should not be included in the budget and encouraged ministries to propose only practical and realistic projects.
So far, the Finance Ministry has held discussions with ministries handling physical infrastructure, urban development, communication, education, health, and agriculture, among others. The ministry plans to engage with other ministries in the coming days to finalize the budget framework.
The finance minister stressed the need for a disciplined and realistic budget that aligns with available resources and public needs, ensuring effective implementation and tangible results.
