Four companies under the Jyoti Group face auction action after failing to repay loans; properties in the name of Roop Jyoti and family listed.
Nepal Bank Limited has initiated the auction process of properties belonging to four companies under the Jyoti Group, one of Nepal’s prominent business houses, following their failure to repay outstanding loans. The bank has publicly named Group Chairman Roop Jyoti, his daughter Suruchi Jyoti, and son Abhik Jyoti, while moving ahead with the seizure and auction of mortgaged properties.
According to the bank, the auction process was triggered after the following companies defaulted on various types of credit facilities:
- Grandi City Clinic & Hospital Pvt. Ltd.
- Syakar Company Pvt. Ltd.
- Jaya Spinning Mills
- Nepal General Marketing Pvt. Ltd.
These companies had taken loans under categories such as working capital, term loans, letters of credit, trust receipts, and force-terminating loans, but failed to settle them despite repeated notices. Earlier, Nepal Bank had issued a 35-day public notice requesting loan repayment, which went unanswered.
As a result, the bank has listed for auction a property registered in the name of Roop Jyoti, located in Kathmandu Metropolitan City–30, at plot number 2309, with an area of 2,251.57 square feet.
The bank has given a final deadline of 8th Bhadra 2081 to repay the dues. If the amount is not cleared by then, the auction bidding process will begin from 9th Bhadra 2081, as stated in the official notice.
It is notable that the Jyoti Group underwent a family-driven split last year, which divided the business empire into two factions. Following the division, a legal dispute emerged between Roop Jyoti and his brother Padma Jyoti over the ownership of Grandi City Hospital, which is still pending in court.
