Volkswagen Launches Virtus Sedan and Taigun SUV at Naima Auto Show

Pooja International unveils two powerful German-engineered models with 1.5L turbo engines.

Volkswagen’s official distributor in Nepal, Pooja International Nepal Pvt. Ltd., has launched two new models — the Volkswagen Virtus sedan and the Volkswagen Taigun SUV — at the Naima Auto Show 2025. According to the company, both vehicles are equipped with a powerful 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine, considered the most powerful in this segment. Built with German technology, the vehicles promise exceptional safety and performance standards.

The unveiling of the models at the Auto Show was done by Udo Voelz, a representative of the German Embassy. Both vehicles feature an advanced fuel-efficient engine that can run using either two or all four cylinders, depending on power requirements. The 1500 cc engine is capable of producing 150 horsepower, delivering a dynamic balance of power and fuel economy.

Both the Volkswagen Virtus GT sedan and the Taigun GT SUV have received a 5-star safety rating under the Global NCAP standards, ensuring strong protection for both the driver and passengers. The Virtus sedan, despite being a sedan, offers a high ground clearance of 180 mm — even greater than many SUVs currently available in Nepal. Combined with its strong chassis and powerful engine, the Virtus is suitable for both urban and rural terrains.

The Taigun SUV has been tailored for Nepali roads with a ground clearance of 188 mm and features a modern 7-speed DSG gearbox. It comes fully equipped with top-tier safety and comfort features such as six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Hill Hold Control. These features are standard in both new models.

Speaking at the launch event, Selzi Joseph, representing the manufacturer, stated that both models were specifically designed with Indian road conditions and fuel quality in mind, making them perfectly suited for Nepal’s environment as well. He also assured that the post-sales service, including spare parts pricing, would be competitive with other Indian brands, helping to keep maintenance costs low for customers.

Bivek Bijukchhe, CEO of Pooja International, remarked that Volkswagen aims to demonstrate the excellence of German engineering in the Nepali market through these new launches. He expressed hope that customers would continue to offer strong support for the brand, as seen in the past.

Pooja International has been distributing Volkswagen vehicles in Nepal since 2008. The company has previously marketed globally successful models such as the Polo, Vento, Tiguan, Jetta, Passat, and Touareg. It currently operates service and spare parts centers in major cities across Nepal, including Biratnagar, Narayanghat, Butwal, Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi, and Pokhara.
