Chandra Prasad Dhakal, the President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), has expressed concerns that investing in Nepal is starting to feel like a mistake.
Speaking at the National Federation of Industry and Business convention on Friday, Dhakal said that while the government has taken steps to improve business laws and remove obstacles, long-term stability is necessary to make these reforms effective. He emphasized that any legal amendments introduced by the government must be implemented without delay; otherwise, they will not have the intended impact.
Dhakal pointed out that although Nepal has strong laws and policies, weak implementation has prevented businesses from benefiting from them. He stressed that if there is policy stability, local investment and capital can significantly contribute to economic growth. He also urged the government to identify and address factors that disrupt the business environment.
He further expressed concerns that repeated disruptions and unnecessary interventions in businesses and industries are making investors question whether they made the right decision by investing in Nepal. He warned that such an uncertain environment discourages private sector participation and could hinder long-term investments.
