The Department of Immigration has officially launched a digital tracking system for foreign nationals visiting Nepal. The system, named the Foreign National Management Information System, was inaugurated on Thursday by Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal at a program held at the Police Club in Bhrikuti Mandap. Minister Aryal highlighted the importance of collective responsibility for ensuring safe, fair, and transparent upcoming elections. He stated that the new system would help manage information on foreign visitors, enhance security, prevent potential crimes, and promote Nepal’s tourism sector.
According to the Department of Immigration, the first phase of the system began on Asoj 1 B.S. in coordination with the Hotel Association, targeting selected hotels in Kathmandu. Under the new system, foreign nationals arriving at Tribhuvan International Airport must enter their personal and travel details into the system before going to their booked hotel. After entering the information, a QR code is generated, which service providers use to send records to the online system. If a visitor has not entered their details in advance, hotels are authorized to input the data and submit it online on behalf of the guest.
At present, the system has been implemented in star hotels, airlines, tour and travel companies, and money exchange centers. The Department plans to gradually extend the system to cover all hotels, guest houses, and both public and private institutions across Nepal.
