Budhigandaki Reservoir Hydropower Project Urged to Move Forward

Chandra Prasad Dhakal, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), has urged all relevant stakeholders to accelerate the construction of the Budhigandaki Reservoir Hydropower Project. The 1,200-megawatt project has been under discussion for a long time, and Dhakal emphasized the need to move it forward without further delay. He made these remarks during the inauguration of the 10th Dhading Festival, organized by the Dhading Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Dhakal highlighted that Nepal Development Public Limited (NDP) has been established with investments from entrepreneurs, businesspersons, and investors across Nepal. He stated that the private sector is ready to contribute to the Budhigandaki project through NDP if there is a lack of resources. Emphasizing Nepal’s vast hydropower potential, he added that hydropower development can also create opportunities in minerals, agriculture, and other business sectors. NDP is prepared to invest in mineral, agricultural, and other entrepreneurial ventures within the Dhading district.

He further stressed that the private sector has consistently completed projects on time, adhering to the specified quality, budget, and resources. Reflecting on the setbacks faced during the protests in Bhadra, when many industries, factories, hotels, and commercial establishments were damaged or set on fire, Dhakal noted that most of these businesses have now been repaired, restored, and resumed operations.

Dhakal also criticized the intimidation and attacks against private businesses, highlighting the resilience of the sector. He stated that the private sector has produced goods, built infrastructure, provided services, generated employment, and paid taxes, yet it continues to face neglect. He questioned why private enterprises are often overlooked despite their contributions to the economy.
