The Sabakhola B Hydropower Project, a privately-led initiative by Arbit Energy Limited, is currently under construction in Sabapokhari Rural Municipality, Sankhuwasabha. The project is being implemented across Wards 3, 4, and 5 of the municipality.

On Monday, the main tunnel of the 21.5 MW project was successfully broken through. The tunnel extends 4,110 meters from the intake area in Sabapokhari-3 to the penstock pipe section. The tunnel breakthrough was officially marked in a program led by Ganesh Karki, Managing Director of Arbit Energy Limited. According to project in-charge Krishna Prasad Pant, the next phase will focus on completing the concrete lining inside the tunnel. Once complete, water from the main tunnel will be diverted through a 1,045-meter-long penstock pipe to the powerhouse for electricity generation. Pant added that 75% of the overall project construction has been completed so far.

Electricity generated from the project will be transmitted to the under-construction substation of the Nepal Electricity Authority located at Khadbari Municipality-10, Sittalpati. The project, which began on Kartik 23, 2079 B.S., aims for completion by Baisakh 23, 2082 B.S.

Under the community development program, the project has been providing local employment opportunities and supporting initiatives in education, health, drinking water, roads, and Bailey bridge construction in the project-affected areas.

The total cost of the Sabakhola B Hydropower Project is estimated at approximately NPR 5 arba. The main construction work is being carried out by Baibhav Power Nepal Pvt. Ltd.
