At Least 10 Percent Full Scholarship Guaranteed for Students in Constituent Campuses of All Universities

All constituent campuses under various universities in Nepal will now have to ensure at least 10 percent full scholarship for their students.

In a big decision, various universities and their constituent campuses are now going to provide at least 10 percent full scholarship to students. Already, seven different universities have issued notices stating that they started process to implement this scholarship rule.

The universities that published separate notices and wrote letters to their constituent campuses include Tribhuvan University, Purbanchal University, Rajarshi Janak University, Agriculture and Forestry University, Pokhara University, and Sudurpaschim University. According to these circulars, campuses must follow this rule during student admissions for academic session 2083/84 for programs approved by university.

Rules for Scholarship Seats

As per the university rules, 10 percent of the total approved seats must be kept vacant. These seats are specifically reserved to provide scholarships to meritorious, poor, and targeted group students. Students will be selected and admitted to these reserved seats based on scholarship guidelines of affiliated campuses.

Education and Sports Minister Sasmit Pokharel said that securing at least 10 percent scholarship in universities and campuses is another major step towards ensuring access to education, equal opportunity, and social justice. He also shared that this system is being institutionalized at university level after looking at successful implementation of scholarship rules in school system of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

Action Against Non-Complying Institutions

Earlier on Chaitra 30, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology had requested all local levels to coordinate and facilitate action against schools that do not provide scholarships according to law. The Ministry had written to Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, asking local levels to monitor if private and public schools are providing 10 percent scholarships based on student numbers and updating their scholarship details according to Education Act and Regulations.
