The Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation has formed a nine-member implementation committee. This committee is made to remove encroachments and protect Guthi lands, Ram Janaki Temple area, ponds, and temples in the Greater Janakpur area.

Aim of the Committee

According to Ministry, this committee is formed to effectively implement recommendations from various past commission reports and study groups. The main job of this committee will be to protect and manage Guthi properties inside Janakpur Sub-Metropolitan City of Dhanusha.

Dhruva Ghimire, who is the Guthi Administrator of the Guthi Sansthan Head Office, is the coordinator of this committee. Other members include the Assistant Chief District Officer of Dhanusha, District Coordination Officer, Director of Land Management and Archive Department, Chief Land Administration Officer of Dhanusha, Chief Survey Officer of Dhanusha, and the Chief of Guthi Sansthan Branch Office in Dhanusha.

Action Against Land Encroachment

The ministry said that committee is given responsibility to remove illegal encroachments from Ram Janaki Temple, major temples, ponds, pond banks, and other Guthi lands. They also have to protect and manage these properties.

The committee will implement suggestions from the High-Level Task Force 2062, the Commission of Inquiry on Protection of Government, Public and Guthi Land 2076, and other reports about Guthi land.

As per the action plan, a notice will be issued to map the encroachments around temple areas, ponds, and pond banks. The people involved will get seven days to voluntarily clear the land. For other Guthi lands where houses or huts are built, mapping will be done and people will get 15 days to remove their encroachments.

If they do not clear the land within the given time, the local administration and local government will work together to remove encroachment within another 15 days. After finishing the work, the committee must submit a progress report to Ministry within 15 days.

The ministry believes that forming this committee will make the work of protecting historic, religious, and cultural Guthi assets in the Greater Janakpur area much more effective by using the past report suggestions.
